Did Paul’s companions on the road to Damascus hear but not see or see but not hear?

Twice in Acts, Paul (formerly called Saul) tells the story of his conversion from zealous persecutor of the church to an apostle of Jesus. The two accounts are very similar; in both Paul falls to the ground in response to a bright light, Jesus commissions Paul and sends him to Damascus for instructions, and a temporarily blind Paul is then led away by his companions. The accounts differ, however, as to what the companions saw. Where did Jesus cast out Legion?

All three of the synoptic gospels recount an incident where Jesus met a demoniac who lived among the tombs, and cast many demons out of him and into a herd of swine which then charged into a lake and drowned. In two of the accounts we are told that the demons were named “Legion”. The accounts disagree, however, as to where the event took place.
